Community Information
Sun Valley, Idaho is an affluent year round resort community located in Central Idaho. Primarily a community of vacation homes or second home residents, the town's year round population of approximately 1400 can swell to nearly 6,000 during the most active winter and summer months. As more and more individuals discover Sun Valley as a vacation destination, the numbers of year round residents grow.
Most individuals who hear the term "Sun Valley" think of the alpine ski area located in Central Idaho. They visualize Bald Mountain, and Dollar Mountain. The former is the main ski mountain and the later is geared toward novice and lower intermediate skiers. In the winter tourists flock to Sun Valley to enjoy the skiing and the after ski ambiance of the area. In the summer, tourists flock to Sun Valley for a diverse array of outdoor recreational activities as well as to experience the community that is Sun Valley.
The entire region surrounding the Resort is considered the community of Sun Valley. This includes the town of Ketchum and most of the Wood River Valley – south to the town of Hailey. The area has been home to the rich, famous and powerful, since the first celebrities were brought to the area in 1939 as part of a marketing campaign.
Well-known individuals who currently make the Sun Valley Community their home include Mats Wilander, Walter Annenberg, Adam West, Ernest Hemingway, Teresa Heinz Kerry, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis.
