Government
The incorporated city of Sun Valley, Idaho has a city government consisting of a mayor and four council members. Although population wise, Sun Valley is a small city, the revenue generated by tourism allows the city to have a large budget and to expend a great deal of money each year for improvements.
Governed by elected officials, who include a mayor and a city council of four members, Sun Valley's system of government is very similar to any other small town in Idaho. However, the city officials deal with a much larger budget and with unique decisions concerning the welfare of their small town.
The small population of Sun Valley – year-round residents – can swell to over 6,000 individuals during the busy seasons of mid winter and mid summer. Government must be able to accommodate the needs of all of the residents – both full time and part time residents. With the economy based on tourism, it is also necessary to continually work on maintaining and improving those amenities, which appeal to tourists. These decisions also have to be kept in proper balance with the environment of the area.
Private citizens are invited to take an active interest in the local government of Sun Valley. City Council meetings are open to the public, with the exception of executive sessions, and local residents are invited to attend.
