Housed in a historic building constructed in 1883, the Blaine County Historical Museum was founded and is maintained by the Blaine County Historical Society. The structure itself is a piece of history having housed several different occupants over the years. Originally an adobe structure, the building has been renovated and updated to house the museum and its displays. Blaine County is rich in history, from the early Native American inhabitants, to white settlers in the 1820's, to the mining boom of the 1880's. Through out these changes, mines were opened and closed, newspapers were printed, mercantiles thrived and went out of business, casinos and brothels were popular, banks were founded, and the railroad came to town. Today, visitors come to Blaine County for the unique scenery and recreational opportunities. While here, they become fascinated by the unique and varied history.
