Dollarhide Pass
Nearly forgotten when talking about the fabulous mountain ranges of Central Idaho, the Smokey Mountains are a great place to hike and explore. Rising high above the western side of the Big Wood River Valley, this mountain range runs for nearly forty miles. One of the favorite mountains to ascend is Dollarhide Mountain, which rises to a height of 8,700 feet. more info
The top of Dollarhide Mountain is just a highpoint along the ridge of the Smokey Mountain Range. This tree and sage covered summit is in a rather remote location – being over thirty miles from any town. Far from town, but with easy access, the hike up Dollarhide Mountain is a fun, short hike for anyone who wishes to get out and get a little fresh air.
To get to the Mountain, from Ketchum, Idaho, simply drive to the north side of town and travel onto Warm Springs Road. Continue to travel past the ski lifts and to the point where the road turns to gravel. Approximately 30 miles further, you will reach Dollarhide. It is best to park on the north side of Dollarhide Pass and then start your hike from that point.
The hike is approximately 2.25 miles in length and has good footing. From the top, you can enjoy majestic views of the vast Idaho wilderness.
