Salmon-Challis National Forest

The Salmon-Challis National Forest is expansive. Found in the east-central area of Idaho, these 4.3 million acres of remote forested area is a haven for outdoor recreation enthusiasts. Included within the boundaries of the Forest are Idaho's highest peak, Mount Borah, and wild, scenic rivers including the Salmon River, and the Middle Fork of the Salmon River.
Travelers come from all over the world to enjoy hunting, fishing, white-water rafting and various other popular outdoor activities. In the early spring, the Salmon River Mountains have a silver green sheen as the new grass blends with the old. Mountain goats can be spotted high on the mountainsides. The salmon can be seen as they make their trip from the Pacific Ocean back to the high mountain rivers and lakes to their spawning beds in the headwaters of the Salmon River. In the fall, as the winter snows begin to blanket the higher peaks, hunters come to the area in search of deer and elk.
