Magic Reservoir

Magic Reservoir is located in between Ketchum and Twin Falls, Idaho. At maximum water level, the reservoir is 3,700 acres and is 5 miles long and 1.5 miles wide. Maximum depth reaches 120 feet. The reservoir is a popular fishing spot for rainbow trout, brown trout and yellow perch.

The amount of rainbow trout in Magic Reservoir depend on the spring stocking of the hatchery. Yet, rainbows that live in the reservoir for two of more years reach 4 and 5 pounds. The brown trout are not found as easily as the rainbows as they are fewer in number and tend to live along the rocky eastern shore. Methods for catching the browns resemble techniques used for bass fishing. Fishermen will troll along the shore with a fake lure along the bottom. The amount of yellow perch depend on the water level in the reservoir through the summer. When there is enough water to flood the shallow bench on the western side, the perch grow fat. Worms or jigs on a common spinning rod are both suitable fishing methods. Magic Reservoir is a good place for a variety of fishing access. There is plenty of bank fishing and many chose to troll in small boats as you are able to access areas that bank fishermen are not. Others use float tubes.
