The Nature Conservancy and Idaho State Fish and Game own most of Silver Creek, providing unparalleled protection. Fences line much of the river in order to protect the banks from cattle grazing. Public access is still good in these owned and protected areas. There are also section that are owned by private ranches. These parts of the river can be fished by float tube which is a popular and relaxing way to sneak up on big trout. Rainbow trout make up 70% of the fish with browns filling the remaining 30%. Rainbows in Silver Creek average 14 to 16 inches though some reach 20 inches and longer. These huge catches weigh around 5 pounds. Browns are caught in a range of sizes, the biggest weighing 9 pounds. With such a steady hatch of mayflies and other insects, fishermen can see trout surfacing to feed near undercut banks. Because Silver Creek is spring fed, you don't have to wait for the snowmelt to clear before the fishing is good.
