Hailey is the home to the majority of the year round residents of the Wood River Valley. The individuals who live in Hailey are the mainstay for the tourist industry, which thrives through out the Valley.
With a history based on mining, Hailey is also known for other history making firsts. In 1883, the community received the first telephone exchange in the State of Idaho and in 1889; it received the State's first electric light system.
