Bowling
Built by the Union Pacific Railroad in 1936, the Sun Valley Lodge is a classic resort, with a bowling alley, a full-service spa, two ice rinks and a pool. Its 148 rooms, including six suites, have been recently renovated, adding high-tech amenities like plasma televisions. On the rare occasions when the weather is bad outside, you can stay inside and try a game or two of bowling.
Most travelers headed to Sun Valley, Idaho are not going there to bowl. However, bowling in the Sun Valley Lodge bowling alley places the traveler in a part of history. The bowling alley has not changed much since it was included in the original design of the Lodge.
If the weather is prohibitive for outdoor recreation – which is rare in the area – then try a competitive game of bowling. Just think, you may be rolling a bowling ball along the same wooden allies once used by celebrities including Ernest Hemingway.
