Historic Galena Lodge

The historic Galena Lodge is located just twenty-two miles north of world renowned Sun Valley, Idaho. Historic Galena Lodge, nestled within the Boulder Mountains, offers spectacular scenery and winter cross country skiing for all. Historic Galena Lodge offers ski rentals and lessons, snowshoe rentals and packed snowshoe trials, hot and hearty lunches, moonlight diners and even overnight yurt accommodations.

Located between the Boulder Mountains and the Sawtooth Mountains is Galena Lodge. Galena Lodge is a historic day lodge, which is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm and serves homemade lunches.

In 1870, prospectors in the area discovered silver and lead ore and in just nine years, a small frontier city of Galena was established. During its mining peak, Galena boasted a population of nearly 800 people. The area fell into disarray until 1994 when several communities within Blaine County came together to form a campaign to help save Galena. More than half a million dollars was raised to purchase and to restore the Historic Galena Lodge, and once restored, the building was given to the county to manage.

Open daily for lunch, the lodge is also open on selected evenings for a full four course family style dinner. On those select nights, you can also skiing by the light of a full moon or participate in star gazing with a local astronomer.

In the winter, there are over 50 kilometers of ski trails in the immediate area of Galena and over 20 miles of packed snowshoe trails. The lodge also has a deck exclusively for dogs to eat, drink and lounge in the sun. You don'teven have to drive yourself as the local businesses and the Blaine County Recreation District have organized a free bus that runs Wednesday through Saturday from the Sun Valley area to Galena Lodge.
